In an effort to raise funds following the devastation in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria, Master Sommeliers Alpana Singh and Serafin Alvarado have united to host Somms & Songs For Puerto Rico. Taking place Sunday, November 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Boarding House (720 N. Wells St.), the event features an afternoon of fine wine and hearty bites, with proceeds benefitting the The American Red Cross. $50 of each ticket sold will go directly to the American Red Cross. Representatives from the American Red Cross will be on site to answer any questions and to take additional donations.
A native of Puerto Rico, Alvarado was moved to organize a fundraiser after learning firsthand of the disastrous scenario from his family still residing on the island.
In addition to Singh and Alvarado, an impressive – and continually growing – lineup of participating sommeliers and restaurateurs will pour elite wines at stations throughout the afternoon. Thus far, participants include:

To complement the afternoon’s wine selections, The Boarding House’s Executive Chef Phil Rubino will serve delicious bites influenced by the vibrant ingredients and flavors of Puerto Rico.
Along with the plentiful wine and foods tastings, Somms & Songs features a performance by Alvarado’s very own band, The Rack & The Riddler. As the music plays, attendees have the chance to win exclusive wines donated by Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, Broadbent Wine Selections, Tenzing Wine & Spirits and more.
By purchasing a ticket for Somms & Songs, guests play a crucial part in the island’s recovery. Following the event, Alvarado will visit Puerto Rico with the Red Cross and help distribute goods.
